Too Cool For School

When we moved to NY last summer (in AUGUST), we quickly learned that heat and humidity are a disastrous combination , especially without any A/C. After sweating out half our body weight last summer, we decided that we would do whatever it took to get some A/C in our new place.

A vast majority of people in Seattle do not have A/C, which makes total sense with the weather being so mild there. Since our home doesn't have central air (very common in NY...), we needed to get one of those window units you can buy at Home Depot. When you grow in Georgia, you live on central air from March-November. Amy was no help with the whole A/C-in-a-window thing. And, Matt's a runner with minimal home improvement experience. While we happened to find a friend who was getting rid of the perfect A/C for our windows, we were up a creek.

Enter our friend George. He came over last night and helped take out the window, build an A/C frame, and install the unit. THANK YOU!!! I am thrilled that our home will be cool and comfortable throughout the summer, and Matt's just happy he got to buy a circular saw :) And Katie, we're sorry we held him captive for so long...

We have been incredibly blessed with new friendships on Long Island; they're really taken care of us with our family so far away. Stay tuned for our next post... you'll get to meet our Tuesday night dinner group!
