Levi
As of yesterday, Levi Thomas has made it a week!! Some of the highlights of his first week:
- He can roll over on his side... usually a milestone surpassed months from now, Levi has been showing off his skill both in and out of his swaddle. We called the pediatrician on Tuesday and she was shocked a 6 day old could do this... we're hoping this also means he's super smart. But he's not as smart as us: we blocked him with a sleep positioner. Granted, he despises sleeping outside of the swaddle and in the positioner, but he's learning.
- Levi has become very confused on the idea of "night" and "day". Sooo... he sleeps through the night day so soundly it's nearly impossible to wake him and he tries to stay awake all through the night. This is supposed to get better after the first month; I'm hoping it gets better tomorrow :)
- Levi took his newborn photos! We won't have them for a bit, but I can't wait to see them. He was naked for 99% of them and proceeded to pee and poop on everything. It was lovely.
- I finally cut off both his and my hospital bands. I liked having him labeled that he belongs to me, but Matt finally intervened and made me cut them. It was painful, but I made it through.
- Levi passed his first pediatrician visit with flying colors!! He's gaining good weight and his little bit of jaundice is going away nicely. Our doctor kindly answered all of our questions (we had a full sheet of them) and let us know that he is perfectly fine.
- Levi got even more clothes... having been promised that we would have a 9 pound baby, we decided to forgo purchasing any newborn clothing (or diapers for that matter). So when we brought home our sweet 7 pound 8 ounce baby and tried to dress him in 3 month clothing, his little arms and legs got completely lost in all the extra fabric. We had to regroup and send my parents out shopping for something that would fit. Thank goodness for grandparents!!
- He lost his umbilical cord stump! I still don't know what to do with it. Reason says to throw that nasty thing away, but it's still sitting in a bowl on our dresser because the mom part of me wants to frame it and hang it in his room. I'm hoping to come to a nice compromise.
Here is a photo from the first week, complete with the swaddle and hospital bands that are now gone.
you are so much like me!
it took me forever to take off the hospital bracelets and reid's stump is in a plastic bag in his memory box...strange, but sentimental -haha....brooks' stump however went straight to the trash. lol
so proud of you mama!!!
keep the posts coming!
dear golly, that little guy is soooooooooo sweet. yeah, good luck on the whole reversing night and day thing. you'd be better off just going nocturnal yourself for a few more weeks til he gets it. i read online that someone fed the stump to their dog. SICK! no taste of baby flesh in my dogs' mouths, thank you
Well done Levi! He sounds like a high achiever already. I would throw away the stump... you could always take a photo of it and put that in the baby book with the bracelets? Hope he gets the day/night balance right soon!
