Hula

As most of you know, our sweet Hula is in critical condition. She went in for a routine procedure and in the recovery process became septic and nearly died on us. It is the worst-case-scenario of any procedure requiring anesthesia; a horror story on every level. She is currently in a state-of-the-art ICU unit getting hands-on care 24 hours a day. Today she was moved off the ventilator and by the end of the day was extubated (sp?) and only on nasal oxygen. At this moment, she is responding well to this situation. Hula has "woken up" and will spend a few minutes at a time looking around, making eye contact, and attempting to lift her head. She looks like she's been hit with a mac truck.

When we arrived at the ICU on Wednesday, Hula had less than a 50% chance of living. Her current prognosis is 50-50. She's making steps in the right direction, but she's still extremely fragile and can relapse or slip at any time. If she does survive, she will likely have brain damage on some level. Luckily, I've been able to be with her and love on her the past few days. Hula is more than a great pet; she is the fourth member of our family. Please pray that she gets to come home to us.
